Tips From The Show:

  • Always remember that the current college norms and high stats do not consider diversity and intersectionality… every person, experience and opportunity presented is different.

  • Higher education is a business! For this reason, it may be difficult for people to answer “do we need college” or not.

  • Yes it’s a business, but money isn’t everything! There’s many resources to assist with education payment, family care, employment status, etc. Continue reading to learn about some of these opportunities!

  • Again, it’s a business BUT if you do what you did to, it’s also an investment with high payoff!

  • There’s no need to kill yourself over attendance… school will always be there! You can start college or go back to school whenever you want!

  • Do what makes you happy! You’ll see the best results where you’re happy.

As of June 2021, nearly 94 million (42%) of Americans ages 25 and over have some sort of college degree; most of those individuals are white, as reported by the U.S. census bureau.

A 2015 study published by The Lumina Foundation shares that college degree holders demonstrate healthier habits than non-degree holders; to be exact, they have a 44% greater likelihood of performing good health than non-degree holders. Some things that may affect this is better accessibility to health insurance and retirement plans. Others include the development of certain habits and knowledge; for example,  the study reports degree-holders to have less likelihood of smoking, drinking and obesity related concerns.

If you made it this far, here’s some bonus content for you!

  • While working at my university’s financial aid office, I learned that FastWeb is a scholarship finder that many students rely on. It’s a great search engine when it comes to finding scholarships that are relevant to you. Learn more here.

  • Your school’s social counselors and/or resource center can prove helpful when scouting for child care, therapy, lawyers, etc.; some schools house their own daycare, others have partnerships with healthcare professionals, almost all provide free lawyer assistance… open communication with these centers could open so many doors for you!

  • Piggybacking off that… your school’s career center could be a great place to receive professional help with resumes, interview mocking, application assistance, etc.
