Episode Two
Anyone Else Think
These Are Reasons to Unfollow?
Episode #2, something that at least 4.5 billion people could have an opinion on.
Keep in mind, Statista has estimated social media users to rise to almost 6B by the year 2027.
Before the 2-minute-mark, we begin talking about reasons why I will follow or unfollow people on social media.
The only way you could find out my list is by listening here or scanning below.
These points are debatable, so please feel free to hit up the show & let us know what you think. Are my choices valid? Why would you follow or unfollow someone?

Tips From The Show:
Because unfollowing someone isn’t always the answer, I shared a bunch of alternatives! With time, I’m sure media developers will give us more features but for now, here’s all the ways you could manage someone’s access to your content (and vice versa).

Sources:
A 2021 study published by Proceedings of the Sixth International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media claims that unfollows usually stem from “reciprocity and follower overlaps.” Also, users are less unlikely to unfollow people who have sent content to them vs. the other way around (Twitter). For a simplified explanation on what this means, listen here (after the 5:30-mark).

Here's some extra information and tips regarding content privacy and preferences on social media.
-
Marking your account as “private” gives you better control over who sees your content (and btw, doing this will not hide your content from the feds)
-
You could restrict certain words and phrases on all social media, and this is a decision that’s reversible (you could do this both in your comment section and your news feed/timeline)
-
Don’t follow and unfollow in bulk or too often; your account may be flagged as spam
-
All social media allow you to control who sees your content vs. who is able to message you… if you want to receive less messages from strangers and unwanted guests, turn your inbox options into “following only,” for example. If you’d like exclusive content access but still want to offer users the opportunity to message you, leave your account on private but toggle the option that keeps your inbox publicly open
